Running Sushi cancelled

Unfortunately, the disruption to flights caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland has resulted in Liquid Loft and Chris Haring’s Running Sushi being cancelled.

The performers are currently in Poland and were due to fly today, but despite attempts to make alternative travel arrangements, it was not possible to get them here in time for the performances on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 April.

David Massingham, Festival Co-Artistic Director said: “Having previously thought that the ash cloud would not adversely affect the travel plans for visiting international companies, we have unfortunately since discovered that Running Sushi is unable to go ahead.

“The performers had several interconnecting flights to get here and, despite making every effort to resolve the situation, we were unable to find a solution and the tough decision was made late last night to cancel the shows.”

Anyone who has bought tickets for the performance will be offered replacement tickets to other shows, or refunds if they prefer. They will be contacted directly by the box office to arrange this, or people can call 0844 338 5000.

On a more positive note, the Festival was able to launch on Monday as planned and many of the other events such as Mark Morris, Ballet Nacional de Cuba and Utopia remain unaffected. With flights now slowly taking to the skies again, we are continuing to monitor the rapidly changing situation. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that no further performances will be affected, however if there are further changes to the programme, we will let you know as soon as possible. Get involved with IDFB

With four solid weeks of dance just over seven weeks away, we’re hard at it booking flights and accommodation, finalising contracts, designing (lots!) of print, getting the word out to the world’s media, and looking into fun stuff like merchandise. Also, having now finalised more details about our outdoor events, we’ve got some new opportunities for you to be a part of the 2010 experience too.

IDFB at BDE 2010

BDE Reception

This week, myself and the IDFB team are mainly recovering from British Dance Edition 2010, a four day festival showcasing the best of British dance to delegates from around the world.  During this event, we hosted our second IDFB reception, revealing our 2010 plans to over 400 people working in the dance industry globally.

Delegates and invited guests gathered in the stunning surroundings of Town Hall to hear our plans, nibble on some canapés, enjoy a drink or two, and pick up their copies of the IDFB brochure.  All in all it was a great opportunity to promote the Festival, and we hope to see lots of the delegates back in Birmingham in April for IDFB events.

Coming soon… over the course of BDE, we interviewed several choreographers that will return to present work during IDFB, including Akram Khan, Arthur Pita, Salah El Brogy and Ahmed Khemis.  I’ll be posting their interviews over the coming days/weeks.
