Breathe the Beat Call Out for Dancers

Breathe the Beat roadshows will be travelling to the West Midlands throughout 2012, calling in Birmingham as part of IDFB on Saturday 28 April, showcasing the best local talent and professional dance companies. The new surroundings of the iconic Bullring’s Spiceal Street will be brought to life with this spectacular day of free dance performances and workshops, and Breathe the Beat is offering local dancers the chance to get involved.

Usually found competing in (and winning) dance contests around the globe, Brooke and Roxy (below) from 2011 Hip Hop International World Champions Plague Dance Crew, will be performing throughout the day, so don’t miss this unique chance to perform on the same stage as two of the best street dancers in the world, here in Birmingham!

New Venues for IDFB 2012

We are delighted that a record seven venues will host performances during this year’s festival, in addition to events such as outdoor spectacular Wings of Desire taking place in public spaces across Birmingham city centre.

We are particularly excited to be working with three new host venues – The Crescent Theatre, where Birmingham Royal Ballet will present a triple bill including the world premiere of a new commission by US choreographer Jessica Lang; mac birmingham, the new location for our popular Family Weekend, including a performance for babies and the enchanting children’s show Clouds, both by Aracaladanza; and Warwick Arts Centre (above), which will play host to Canadian choreographer Dave St-Pierre’s controversial show Un peu de tendresse bordel de merde!, sure to be one of the most talked about shows in this year’s programme!

Current Opportunities: Costume Design

IDFB is setting a challenge for fashion/clothing design students to design a creative, imaginative eye-catching costume that can be worn during IDFB 2012 to promote and draw attention to the festival brand. The costume is intended to be a unique way to raise the profile and awareness of the festival for its duration.

The oppportunity offers both the chance to have your work seen by thousands of people in Birmingham city centre, and to be involved in IDFB 2012! The deadline is Tuesday 28 February.
