West Midlands for 2012

International Dance Festival Birmingham is working in partnership with the West Midlands Culture Programme for London 2012.

Each English region has been invited by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to establish a Cultural Olympiad – a programme of cultural events and activities leading up to the Games in 2012.

The West Midlands Culture Programme is the region’s response to this invitation and is a unique opportunity to showcase the regions rich, thriving cultural offer and strengths, raising the international, national and regional profile of the Heart of England, West Midlands region. Through exciting, high quality cultural activity and events which convey the innovation and creativity of the region the programme will help to drive visitors and inward investment to the region.  In particular it provides us with an opportunity to make the most of our strongest regional cultural assets through events such as International Dance Festival Birmingham.

The West Midlands’ Culture Programme for 2012 consists of:

  • People Dancing
  • Community Games
  • Festivals and Events
  • Inspire Mark Projects
  • Maximising the Impact of Major Projects

Dave Moorcroft, regional ambassador for London 2012 and former Olympian said: “We want to make the West Midlands the region for dance in the run up to London 2012, using the power of the Games to engage with people from right across the region. The West Midlands’ Culture Programme for London 2012 provides an excellent opportunity to showcase and celebrate the cultural strengths of the region including significant events such as International Dance Festival Birmingham.”
